Welcome to Year 5 - Fox

Class Teachers: Mrs Riley and Mrs Watts

Year 5 is the first year of Upper Key Stage 2 and as such, is a very important and exciting year for pupils. Children will take part in three main projects throughout the year which will focus on different areas of the curriculum such as: Geography, Science, History, Art and Technology. Other subject areas are linked to the project where appropriate. Each project will begin with a ‘Wow’ event to engage pupils with the project which may involve going off-site with a trip, or activities based in school. All of our Creative Curriculum projects are designed to match the needs of the Year 5 curriculum but also planned to fully engage pupils in their own learning.

In Year 5 pupils will be expected to take on more responsibility for themselves and their own learning; becoming Tough Tortoises. This may include jobs within school or completing homework tasks to the best of their ability. They are also given more opportunities such as the option to go on a residential during where children can take part in many outdoor adventurous activities.

Year 5 is the start of the journey towards being “secondary ready” and responsible in the wider world beyond school. We welcome your support to work with your child to ensure they get the best out of their education by completing tasks at home too. Look out for the termly newsletter which has the timetable needs explained and also the details for the term’s topic.
